This past January, IBM released the latest Cognos Express 9.5 the latest upgrade of the Cognos Express suite.  The upgrade from 9.0. to 9.5 was pretty standard in that it removed several bugs to improve performance and functionality but, most importantly, it included the addition of the Planning module.

The addition of the Cognos Express Planning module is a huge upgrade from the previous versions of Cognos Express.  Just like the other modules in Cognos Express, you can purchase Planner on its own or with any other combination of Cognos Express modules like Reporter, Analyst, and Excelerator.

Cognos Express Planner, just like the contributor components of IBM Cognos TM1 and Cognos Planning, allows for streamlined information gathering, aggregation and analysis for continuous planning, budgeting and forecasting.

With this recent installment, IBM Cognos Express delivers all the essential reporting, analysis, dashboard, planning, budgeting and forecasting capabilities that midsize companies need and can afford in one fully integrated solution.

Creating a Cube in IBM Cognos TM1 is one of the most basic and fundamental tasks that a developer must be able to do when creating a TM1 system. The data cube is the most important component of any TM1 system.

TM1 data cubes allows for lightening fast business analytics, and the ability to slice and dice data in almost every conceivable way. That is why it is important for any developer creating a data cuve to first determine the scope and type of data that they are trying to view prior to creating the new data cube.

Once that question in answered, the appropriate dimensions can be selected, or created if necessary, to create the new data cube.
